Building a New Home

A week ago today we stood on the unbroken ground at the site of our new home and prayed together. This past week has been a whirlwind of events!

Twas the night before digging…

Thursday, January 23, was a huge day in our journey to build a new home at Victory Acres. We had been waiting on the inspector (who was supposed to be there on Wednesday) to complete the site inspection and post the permit. We made the decision to proceed in faith that he would come, and the crew started rolling our way at 8 am. The inspector arrived a little after 10am, made his inspection, posted the permit, and 30 seconds later the excavator rolled over the hill towards the farm. Just in time we had our permit and there was no delay! Isn’t that just like God?!

Firm Foundation finished digging the basement on Friday morning. After another quick footer inspection on Monday, January 27, they were set up and ready to pour by 5pm that evening. The next morning the footer forms came off and the wall crew arrived.

The wall crew set up their forms on top of the newly installed footer. By 4:00pm Tuesday, 1/28, they were ready to pour the walls. I was away for most of the day and arrived back to the jobsite just in time to catch a potentially costly mistake. We needed a second “egress” from the basement in order to satisfy the code requirements for our county. While Firm had planned to include one, it was not on the final set of prints that the crews were working from and it had not been set up. We had three cement trucks in line waiting to pour while the crew pulled apart the forms and quickly constructed the 4′ opening necessary for an egress basement window. An amazing 20 minutes later, they were pouring cement!

The basement slab will be poured early February after the plumber finishes the basement plumbing work early next week. Backfill will also be happening somewhere in there, and then onto the next stage – building the rest of the house!

The speed at which it is all moving is more than breathtaking. There have been several God moments in this process. I got a call just yesterday from a friend with about $400 worth of plumbing supplies that he salvaged. They were being thrown away on another jobsite where he was working!

Thanks to Firm Foundation of Westfield, IN!

Thanks to Jeremy Fish and the entire crew of Firm Foundation for all of their hard work! We are excited about all the ways that God is helping us in this process!
